Dundas Neighbourhood Centre
Dundas Area Neighbourhood Centre (Sturt Street, Telopea) asked Parramatta Computer Pals to assist it with the development and delivery of a train the trainer course for volunteers wishing to provide training for seniors. The courses, run between April has a focus on training in computer skills, but the course will also have a strong focus on understanding the learning styles of seniors.

Seniors Week
ParraPals trainers Deborah Martin, Judy Joyce and John Moxon demonstrated genealogy online (family history); computer designed card making (CreataCard); and improving photos (Picasa) before printing them. The seminar was held in March 2009 at the Parramatta Heritage Centre.
After the seminar, many participants took the opportunity to explore the Parramatta Local History Library upstairs.
Train the Trainer course
This course is run from time to time for current club members who have undertaken a number of courses and wish to become a trainer or trainer's buddy. It is also available for experienced computer users who wish to become a volunteer trainer, but such people must join the club, to demonstrate commitment to the Club's values.
The course will not teach you computer skills - rather, it will focus on learning styles of older people, how they may differ from your own learning style; training techniques and how to take into account the diversity of older people, whose culture, language or functional ability may be different from your own.
This course is free, and is currently run over 2.5 days on three consecutive weeks. It was last run in November 2009, and it is hoped to offer it again mid year in 2010.
